Brooklynites Relocate to Newburgh NY
Brooklyn residents move north and find a home in Newburgh.
Many of my new home buyers are seeking to purchase properties in the City of Newburgh NY. An increasing number of new clients are finding their way up the Hudson River to my part of the world from Brooklyn, NY. What is the attraction? Newburgh has been a city on the verge of “something great” ever since I arrived in the Hudson Valley back in 1983. Newburgh — a small city with some big problems and poor leadership, but with huge potential — stumbled going forward for many years. A new surge of business and momentum is now taking over in the City of Newburgh. Although it has been slow to happen, I see change around every corner. Every day, new businesses enter the Newburgh landscape, bringing progress and rejuvenation of buildings in the city. Many local residents not directly involved are actually quite unaware of these changes in their own backyards.
Brooklynites are leaving New York City behind to make Newburgh their new home for a variety of reasons. Compared to Brooklyn, a more densely populated and expensive area, the City of Newburgh has a great deal to offer. We are quite an affordable location for businesses’ relocation, especially when compared to the rising rents in Brooklyn. Newburgh’s warehouse space can be purchased for what it would cost to rent in Brooklyn for just one year. How many places can claim that? We are also considered quite user friendly for travel and commuting, with close proximity to rail, roads, runway, and the river. Newburgh has been touted a “River of Opportunities” on more than one occasion. One building after another is joining the roster of occupied space, contributing to the progress. Atlas Industries, Thornwillow Press and the Newburgh Brewery are among the newest businesses that have relocated here. Many Brooklyn residents see the value in moving north to our beautiful city and working hard with the leaders and local activists to become a part of the progress. By word of mouth, many recruit family and friends to make the trek north and settle in.
Businesses are relocating here too!
Moving to Newburgh is not just about a great business location. Many of our new residents bring their business to our area and then find a great home. Many of my new clients have been priced out of Brooklyn for both a business and a home. Those clients are happy to find what we have to offer. It is a desirable place to live, find office or manufacturing space and open a business. It is so much more affordable.
Some of the most beautiful Hudson River views in the state can be found in Newburgh. Many of our newbies find a lifestyle that balances a relaxed atmosphere and a city culture. Newburgh residents enjoy spending a laid-back day in the park just as much as they appreciate being only 65 minutes from Grand Central Station by train. Within the city limits, our parks, restaurants, indie theaters, local opera company, and coffee bars are only a few things that are popular for entertainment. We have new art galleries and a new variety of restaurants are finding their way into our midst. A few recent additions are Ms. Fairfax, Palate Wine Store, and the Liberty Street Bistro. The list of great things happening in the City of Newburgh keeps growing.
My newest influx of clients from Brooklyn are NYC residents looking for an affordable weekend home. They find our historic district and architecture quite charming. These homes date back to the early 1800′s. Many homes have been restored, while others are a diamond in the rough. We are a central location for those who love a great getaway spot and use Newburgh as their retreat from NYC. Newburgh can serve as a launching pad north to hundreds of nearby Hudson Valley attractions such as Woodstock, Lake Minnewaska, and the Vanderbilt Mansion. Our four season climate, blue skies, mountains, fall foliage, and some mighty great views of the Hudson River make it no surprise to me that we are being found as a great relocation destination. While we could never be just like Brooklyn, our new residents don’t seem to mind.
