The Town of Marlborough NY is a rural community of approximately 8,500 residents in Ulster County NY, located approximately 70 miles north of New York City. Known for its historic farms, fertile orchards, and plentiful vineyards, Marlborough is one of the most abundantly beautiful areas in the Hudson Valley.
Location and Geography
Marlborough is located in the southeastern portion of Ulster County, with the Hudson River forming the border to the east, and the Town of Newburgh in Orange County bordering it to the south. Plattekill and Highland lie to the west and north, respectively. The entire town covers an area of 26.5 square miles. The western portion of Marlborough is characterized by rugged hills, peaking at 1,127 feet above sea level atop Milton Mountain. Dipping down to the east is the Lattintown Valley, with its many fruit and vegetable farms.
The population in the Town of Marlborough is concentrated within two hamlets, Milton and the somewhat confusingly named Marlboro, located in the eastern commercial corridor along Route 9W. History

European settlement in the area dates back to the late 1600s, when Captain Evans of the Royal British Navy was given a land grant to the territory. The community separated from the Newburgh precinct in 1772 and reformed as the Town of Marlborough in 1788.
Visitors to the town may be interested to visit the Gomez Mill House, the oldest Jewish residence in North America that also boasts the only intact mill remaining in the area. Milton Railroad Station is another National Historic Site, its location making it an important transportation hub among Native Americans prior to settlement, and later serving as a steamboat port and a railway station for passenger and freight cars. Local residents and the town government are raising money to restore the station and convert it for use as a community center.
Education
Students in the Town of Marlborogh attend school in the Marlboro Central School District, which includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. There are also several options for private and parochial education in the surrounding areas.
Continuing students may attend the local community college at SUNY Orange, with two campuses nearby in Newburgh and Middletown. There are also several four-year institutions within a nearby radius. SUNY New Paltz is the nearest public university, located about a 20 minute scenic drive from Marlborough. With approximately 6,700 enrolled undergraduates and 1,100 graduate students, SUNY New Paltz is known for providing a high-quality and affordable education to bachelors and masters level students. Other options for nearby, commutable colleges include Vassar and Marist Colleges in Poughkeepsie, and Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh.
