Chestnut Ridge is a small village located in Rockland, County, NY. Only 32 miles north of New York City it has long been a part of the suburban sprawl up the Hudson River. A tiny village, Chestnut Ridge is only approximately 4.9 square miles, and is in the Town of Ramapo.
Chestnut Ridge is known for the Haring Homestead. A sandstone farmhouse that was constructed quite a few years ago, in 1788. There was a sawmill and gristmill added in later years. A historical building that was sold and became the Martens Falls Inn and continuous restaurants over the years.
Some places of interest in the village are the Duryea Farm, the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum and the Children’s Park. The Duryea Farm was founded in 1883 and now produces organic fruits and vegetables. The Little Red Schoolhouse Museum is located on Schoolhouse Road and was used as a school from 1890 until the early 1970’s. The Children’s Park is a popular place for most children. The options include tennis, basketball, baseball, playground and walking trails.
The Students of Chestnut Ridge attend the East Ramapo School District. They attend one of three elementary schools, the Chestnut Ridge Middle School and the Spring Valley High. Private schools in the area are also within a short distance from home.

One of the unique happenings in the village is on the first Sunday of the month, when the mayor hosts “Sundays with the Mayor” at the Espresso Shop. Everyone in the community is welcome to go and talk about what they think needs to be done and how. Small town atmosphere gets the residents to participate in the local government.
