Hilton Head SC is a beautiful place to be
This is usually a blog about living in the Hudson Valley, so why talk about Hilton Head? Many people from the Hudson Valley purchase a second home, or look to retire in South Carolina. Moving south for the winter is a great treat with warm weather, beaches and lots of golf. For some, this can be a great investment to have now, and later for their retirement. Many people think about looking for a place but don’t know where to begin. How to go about buying a home and not knowing the neighborhood can be a challenge. The question of where to begin, is at the beginning. If you have not started the process it can be overwhelming. Let me make it simple to help get you on your way.
On a recent trip south I spent some time with a local Realtor, Susan Jacobsen. I learned tons of information about the area and just what it would take to make the transition. The most important thing I learned was that you need an experienced real estate agent that knows the communities in Hilton Head and the surrounding areas. Things are different from the Hudson Valley when it comes to buying a property in South Carolina. Having the right agent to help guide and work for you is truly priceless.
When you head down to South Carolina and you want to look around, do a bit of homework first. Looking on the internet is a start, but not enough. You will find that there are many different gated communities to live in, but each with their own rules. You will need to know about annual fees, and what they include. The taxes in South Carolina are lower, but as a second home you don’t qualify for the lowest rates. What are transfer fees? Flood insurance and how it affects your home and location is an important factor when choosing a specific community. What has been selling, are there any shortsales, what is currently on the market and for how long? Why did the house down the street sell for so much more than this one? There are so many different things to consider.
The communities are gated. There are no for sale signs and you can’t just drive by to see if you like the area. You will need a Realtor to get you into any home and to tour the communities. The next question is, how to find an agent that is going to work for you? Just ask me.I can help you get started by introducing you to Susan. She has been working the Hilton Head and Bluffington Communities for over 17 years and is well acquainted with the area.
I toured about ten homes in the area with Susan last week and totally enjoyed seeing these homes and Susan’s company. It is obvious how much Susan enjoys where she lives. More than that, I learned quickly that she knows the area and the inner workings of each and every community we toured. She knows the inventory like the back of her hand and why one home would be considered over priced. She knows that when a property is well priced you better put your offer in now or miss out on that deal. Yes, in Hilton Head properties can move quickly. It is easy to see why as Hilton Head and Bluffington are absolutely beautiful. A different life style and look for those that love the beach and bit of golf too. I would recommend that you take the time to check out the area. Yes, southern hospitality is alive and well in Hilton Head, and a visit with Susan will have you convinced.
